1967 was a cool, relatively dry year. This was a good vintage for Cheval Blanc, producing elegant wine with an impression of sweetness that is ready to drink now.

1967 WEATHER CONDITIONS

TEMPERATURES AND RAINFALL

1967 is a typically Right Bank vintage, and it is widely acknowledged that wines in the Libourne region were successful. However, the wines of the Médoc are often less good than the previous vintage, which has a famous reputation. Summer was dry, but cool, except for the month of July, which was warmer than average. Late summer was fairly rainy. In years such as this, early-ripening ecosystems such as Cheval Blanc's, manage to do very well. On the whole, 1967 was rather dry and cool.

 WATER BALANCE

In order to grow well, the vine needs for water stress to set in slowly so the grapes to ripen well and become concentrated. The relatively low rainfall led to enough water stress to produce quality wine.

RIPENING AND YIELDS

The cool temperatures extended the length of time necessary for phenolic maturity, which explains why the harvest only started on the 27th of September.  Yields were low: not even 30 hectolitres per hectare.
The wine is well-balanced, with an alcoholic degree of 12.5°.

TASTING NOTES

The fresh and floral nose is standing on aromas of red fruits and almonds, but it is the mint-filled chocolate notes that dominates and signs the nose of a great minty freshness.

The attack is quite fat, full and sweetening. The mid-palate is very refined and elegant. The mouth is rising and fresh, on minty and camphorated eucalyptus balm aromas. The green hint that you feel leaves a little hard and austere final, dry enough.

1967 Cheval Blanc is a good vintage that shows pronounced complexity.

The bouquet is deliciously soft, elegant, and sweet. This sensation of softness continues onto the palate, which displays hints of cocoa and chocolate.

Discretely elegant, 1967 Cheval Blanc is best consumed within the coming decade.
